Terms and Conditions
FLEXIBILITY, CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
Booking your preferred date
All bookings are subject to the availability of chefs. We will always try our best to give you your first choice of date, but cannot guarantee that it will always be possible. Please book as far in advance as possible to increase the chances of being able to book your first choice. A surcharge may be applicable on bank and public holidays. This will be discussed with you if you request such a date.
Cancelling your booking, changing the date or changing the location
Once you have booked a date for your dinner party or cooking lesson, if you need to re-schedule or cancel, we will always do our best to help. If you confirm your cancellation at least 7 days before the date booked, you will receive a full refund, minus a £20 administration charge. If you request a change of date or location at least 7 days before the date you originally booked, we will endeavour to meet your new requirements, subject to the availability of the chef. There is a £20 administration charge for this change.
We regret that we cannot offer any refund if you cancel or wish to change the date of your booking less than 7 days in advance of the booked appointment. In some instances, we may be able to change the location with less than 7 days notice (as long as the date, time, menu and number of people remain the same), subject to the availability of the chef, but this is not guaranteed. You may wish to consider taking out suitable insurance to cover cancellations beyond your control.
Very rarely there may be a delay in the arrival of your chef, or we may need to cancel your booking for reasons beyond our control, such as adverse weather conditions, sudden illness, unavailability or breakdown of transport or equipment. We will do our best to notify you as soon as possible and, in the event that we must cancel, will offer an alternative date. Should this not be possible, you will receive a full refund. We regret that, in these circumstances, we are unable to reimburse travel, accommodation or any other expense that you or your guests may incur in relation to the cancelled booking.
Changing the number of people attending a cooking lesson or dinner party
On booking, we will ask how many people will be attending the cooking lesson or dinner party (for cooking lessons, the maximum number of people is 3 and for dinner parties, the maximum number of people is written on your voucher: either 4 or 6).
If you would like to reduce the number of guests attending your dinner party, please notify us at least 5 days in advance. We regret that we are unable to offer any refund.
If you would like to increase the number of guests attending your dinner party (we cater for a maximum of 6 guests including yourself), as long as you notify us more than 5 days in advance of your appointment, we will arrange for enough ingredients to cover this. There will be an additional charge of £100 if you are increasing from 4 people or less to 5 or 6 people (our prices are £300 for up to 4 people and £400 for up to 6 people) which must be paid in full at least 5 days in advance of the appointment. There is no additional charge for increasing the number of guests up to the limit you have paid for, but you must notify us at least 5 days in advance so that the chef can make the necessary arrangements.
There is no additional charge for increasing the number of people attending a cooking lesson from 1 to 2 or 3, but you must notify us at least 5 days in advance so that the chef can make the necessary arrangements. We cannot guarantee that we will accommodate more than 3 people in a cooking lesson.
We regret that we are unable to accept increases to the number of people attending a cooking lesson or dinner party with less than 5 days notice.
SESSION LENGTH
For a cooking lesson, the chef will be at your home for approximately 3 hours. For a dinner party, the chef will be at your home for approximately 4 hours. However, if we expect that the chef will need to stay for longer than this time, we will discuss this with you on booking.
EXCLUSIONS
We reserve the right to exclude certain high-cost ingredients from cooking lesson or dinner party menus (such as truffles, oysters, caviar and others). Should you wish to learn a dish (for a lesson) or eat a dish (for a party) with one of these excluded ingredients, we will discuss the cost of doing so with you prior to your appointment.
Drinks are not included in cooking lessons or dinner parties. Please let us know if you would like us to suggest suitable drinks to accompany your meal. Occasionally we may be able to source drinks for you. Please contact us to discuss this prior to booking.
VOUCHERS
When you make a payment through the website, you will receive an email confirmation and a voucher through the post. On booking, you must quote the unique reference number on the voucher. The voucher has a validity of six months from the date of purchase, within which time you must have booked your cooking lesson or dinner party (but not necessarily have had the appointment).
PAYMENT
All bookings must be fully paid for in advance. This is usually done via our website. We are also happy to take payment by cheque, made payable to Chef’s Compliments Ltd. Please contact us if you would like to pay by cheque. You will not need to pay the chef anything at your home.
LIABILITY
We hold public liability insurance which covers you for personal injury and damage to your property for up to a value of £5 million. We also hold product liability insurance up to a value of £5 million.
You are expected to listen to all instructions given by the chef during a cooking lesson and take all reasonable care in the kitchen in order to prevent accidents from occurring. You must wear suitable clothing and footwear (flat shoes with covered toes) for cooking. We will not be responsible for any damage to your clothing or footwear.
For your safety, please inform us in advance of the lesson if you have any dietary requirements, are pregnant, have diabetes, epilepsy or an allergy to something, or if you think there is something else that the chef should be aware of.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES TO THE CHEF
On arrival, you must show the chef how your kitchen equipment works, including turning on any electrical appliances. You should show the chef what equipment may be used for the cooking lesson or dinner party, including pots, pans, electrical equipment, crockery, cutlery and glassware (if necessary), removing it from high cupboards. Any faulty equipment should be removed from the kitchen prior to the cooking lesson or dinner party.
WEATHER
If you choose an outdoor location for your cooking lesson or dinner party, appropriate cooking facilities must be available. Please ensure that you have a suitable indoor venue available in the case of poor weather.
AGE RESTRICTIONS
You must be 18 years of age or older to participate in a cooking lesson.
KITCHEN EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
You must have at least a minimum level of equipment in your kitchen. We will check what equipment you have on booking and discuss any potential issues.
